🙋🏻♂️Hey friends,
This page is a bit self-focused—it’s all about me! I hope you find it interesting, though 🙂.
My name is Yousef Shaheen. I am an Engineer and a Researcher, my background is in Mechanical engineering, Computational Materials Science, Additive Manufacturing (3D printing) and Scientific Computing.
⭐ Fun Fact About Me
I’ve had the incredible opportunity to live, study, and work in six different countries, including Syria, Austria, Italy, Germany, Poland and The Netherlands. This multicultural exposure has enriched my perspective and broadened my horizons. 😄🌍
👉 My Education Journey
2007-2014:
My educational journey began with a comprehensive five-year BSc program in Mechanical Engineering at Damascus University. During this period, I gained hands-on experience as a mechanical designer and had the privilege of completing a research internship at Vienna University of Technology in Austria. Graduating with honors in 2012, I received academic excellence awards in 2010, 2011, and 2013, recognizing my dedication and achievements. After my bachelor studies, I worked as a mechanical engineer in a steel plant in Damascus for two years.
2014-2016:
Fueling my passion for computational tools and software in solving engineering and physics problems, I pursued a master’s degree in Mathematical Modelling in Engineering. Thanks to the European Commission, I was awarded a full scholarship to participate in the joint MSc Erasmus Mundus degree program called “MathMods.” This program took me on an exciting journey through Italy, Germany and Poland, where I entered the fields of “Mathematical Engineering” and “Computational Materials Science.” In 2016, I proudly graduated with a double major MSc degree.
2017-2022:
Continuing my professional journey, I joined the MultiScale Mechanics group (MSM) at the University of Twente in 2017 to pursue my Ph.D. research. Focused on additive manufacturing, particularly selective laser sintering and scientific software development. My research aims at optimizing numerically and experimentally the processes associated with laser powder bed fusion technology (LPBF). This involves utilizing existing numerical models and developing new ones to predict materials processability for LPBF. Additionally, I calibrate and validate simulation results through experimental validation.
2022 – Today:
Currently, I work as a Supplier Quality Engineer at ASML, where I contribute my expertise and ensure the highest standards of quality for our products.
I started this Website and a free Insights-Letter to share fascinating insights and breakthroughs in 3D printing technology and engineering tools, aiming to make these subjects accessible and engaging for professionals, students, and enthusiasts alike. Through my website and YouTube channel, I strive to inspire curiosity and foster a deeper understanding of these transformative fields. In addition to my technical pursuits, I am keen to mentor and support PhD candidates, whether guiding them through the challenges of academic research or helping them achieve their professional goals.
